Theme: The Devil's Devices (Part 6)
Text: 2 Corinthians 2:11
Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
Let's define Doubt shall we?
Doubt is defined as a feeling of uncertainty or lack of conviction.
Back to the Genesis account. From the definition above, we understand what 'the serpent' was trying to do to Eve.
His words were aimed at creating uncertainty in the mind of Eve. Remember what we discussed about the mind being the medium.for the devil's devices.
"Can it really be that God has said, You shall not eat from every tree of the garden?" He asked.
By implication he was asking if Eve was certain that that's what God said. This was an attack to cause Eve to doubt the word of God: One of the elements of doubt.
The minute God's word is in doubt in our hearts, danger is near.
Many have wondered why the serpent went after Eve and not Adam. The truth is the serpent sensed that element of doubt (the weakness) in the woman.
Adam received the word directly from God. Eve got it second-hand from Adam.
Eve was never fully convinced of the word of God; the instruction which God had given unto Adam.
This could be as a result of lack of proper communication on the part of Adam or that Eve didn't understand the full implication of what Adam told her.
A personal knowledge of God's word eliminates doubt. You can doubt that which is conveyed to you. But you won't doubt that which you are convinced of.
Eve's response was testimony to her ignorance of God's Word. She replied: "We may eat the fruit from the trees of the garden, except the fruit from the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die."
Let's continue tomorrow as I'll show you 2 flaws in Eve's response that revealed her ignorance of God's word.
Ignorance of God's word is an invitation to doubt.
