For the past few weeks, we've studied and learnt wisdom from 4 little creatures. Starting from tomorrow, we will turn our attention to not so small creatures with the Eagle being the first of many.What wisdom can the eagle teach us? We will begin to find out from tomorrow. I pray for you that the end of this month marks the end of negativity in your life. Continued from yesterday ...    Have you ever caught a lizard by its tail? If you have you would have discovered that the lizard's tail immediately comes off. This happens not because you pulled too hard on the tail or  held it too tight.    Rather, it is a self-defense mechanism known as autotomy. The lizard is willing to let go of its appendage for the sole purpose of self-preservation. The amazing thing is that most lizards are capable of regrowing their tail. While we humans cannot severe any of our appendages and regrow them later, there is a valuable lesson to be learnt here. This is the lesson of separation or as Jesus put it "cut off".  "And if your hand—even your stronger hand—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be

Continued from yesterday ...   Discreet: careful not to cause embarrassment or attract too much attention, especially by keeping something secret:(Source: Cambridge English Dictionary ) Lizards can be discreet when they want to be. This is why they can live in your house without your knowledge.  This is a major lesson we need to learn especially in the era where everything must be posted on shared on different social media platforms. No be everything you go dey loud.   We should learn how to keep certain things private especially when they are still in the formation stage. Not all achievements should be made public. Not everyone who likes or congratulates the success you post or share are truly happy with you. Even certain folks you think are close may not want the progress of that goal. In 1 Thessalonians 4:11, the Apostle Paul says:

If they need to pass through a tiny space, Lizards can make their bodies very flat so that they can pass through. An indication that you would achieve your visions, dreams, and goals is your ability to navigate through challenges, obstacles, hindrances, and roadblocks.  A vision is a picture of a preferred future, but before that future is reached there are the present negative situations you must deal with.   It is not enough to have vision, you must also have a mapped out plan and strategy to help you achieve such visions. Affirmation is a good thing however, it shouldn't be sought at all costs. Asking for permission is ethical, but not in all situations.  Lizards don't bother with any of the above. They don't seek to be affirmed because they know they won't get it. Neither do they seek your permission to live in your house.  Many have mortgaged their success and future at the place of seeking affirmation and permission for their God-given purposes and visions.  If a lizard was always to wait for affirmation or permission, it will never have a place in your house. If God has given you a vision, understand that there will be oppositions. Even those whom you feel should affirm what you are doing might turn out as challenges to that vision. The true permission you need to achieve your God-given vision is God'

Instead, many will likely try to kill them (for those who have the courage that is).  Despite being despised, these creatures are the typical "I no send" in Nigerian pidgin parlance.  They don't mind what you think about them. They don't bother if you want to kill them. As far as they want to stay in your house, they will do so.  They are capable of squeezing themelves through cracks and holes in the walls. It isn't just happenstance or clumsy work. The web pattern is made in such detail that it suits the purpose the web is intended to achieve.  The difference between what you are doing, and what another person who is doing the same thing is the manner in which it is done.  Spiders pay attention to detail when spinning their webs. Attention to detail matters when we do our business. What is overlooked by someone else can be used as a selling point for another.  Competing businesses know that the way to win customers from the competition is to offer that which the competition is not.  And in most cases, while everyone chase after the big business strategies, they neglect the little detail. "Let your words be few". This is not a suggestion but an instruction. The Bible is full of instructions concerning how we should speak.  James 1:19 instructs us to be slow to speak. Matthew 12:36 informs us that every idle word spoken shall be given account for on the day of judgement. Why then does the scriptures have so much on words and how we should speak? The answer is because words are the formative and creative force that shaped the universe. Hebrews 11:3 says "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." I mentioned yesterday that the web-spinning ability of the spider is an inherent skill. The silk that spiders make their webs from is stored in liquid form inside their bodies.  When they want to make the web, they bring it out and the liquid silk becomes hard when it comes in contact which allows them to spin their webs.  Each of us have at least one inherent skill, gift, or talent. While skills, gifts, and talents can be learned, no one is born without a particular one.  Even the skills we learn are a product of the inherent potential we have to gain mastery of such skills. If you aren't wired or designed in that manner certain skills can be difficult to acquire.  Although we may have these skills residing within us, it is unprofitable to us in that form. Not many people like spiders. In fact, many are afraid of them. That's why there is something called arachnophobia. While these little and sometimes not so little creatures can be somewhat scary to some people, one thing spiders are that cannot be disputed is their ingenious creativity. Spiders are very skillful and creative. This is evident in their web-spinning ability and the webs they make.  This web-spinning skill is an inherent ability. And it plays a major function in their lives. Spiders use their webs for the following: 1. To catch prey.  2. To live in.  3. To protect their eggs. 4. To preserve captured prey. 5. It is used as a means of movement. Spiders can create webs that allows them to ride the winds current.  The web of the spider is very durable. It doesn't seem so

Proverbs 30:28 (King James Version) [28]The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces. The 28th verse of Proverbs 30 is an interesting one. This is because the original Hebrew word "semamiyt" has been translated into the English words "Spider" in the King James Version and "Lizard" in modern translations such as the New Living Translation. This is no cause for controversy as both creatures fit the Hebrew word in use. First of all, both lizard and spider have their own Hebrew words which are different from the one used here.  The word in use here isn't clear but it is from a root word that speaks of the ability of a creature to stun, stupefy, or poison. And certain Lizards and Spiders are known to be poisonous.  Also, both creatures have been found to be in the most unlikelies

Their purpose when they swarm is to EAT.  They are so focused on this that no green thing escapes their path when they begin to eat.  What can we learn from this? We are all created by God for a purpose. This purpose is given to us before we were formed. It is the primary essence of our existence.  Every other thing we do in life is to aid in accomplishing that purpose. In terms of direct leadership, supervision, and control, there is no individual in charge.  However, locusts are a powerful force of nature. An individual desert locust is no threat to any vegetation. Their ability to pillage entire vegetation occurs when they band together.  Desert locusts have two behavioural patterns. Ordinarily, these creatures are solitary in nature. They keep to themselves and only go out at night to feed. They rarely meet with other locusts. The only time they do is when they meet to mate. And after that it is back to your solitary life. However, under certain conditions such as drought followed by rapid growth in vegetation, the locust change in behaviour, habit, and appearance.  They then enter a swarming phase that causes them to become social and interactive with other locusts. Rock Hyraxes live in a community. You can have up to 80 members living together. As a result, they go foraging for food as a group.  This actually leaves them vulnerable to predators. Interestingly, Hyraxes despite having numerous predators are not usually prey causalties.  This is because they have developed a warning system that allows them evade these predators. When they go foraging, sentries are stationed at strategic location to warn the group of any danger while the others feed. When there is any danger, the lookout sentries make certain noises to alert others. Immediately, the entire group retreat back to their rock stronghold.  As humans, there is danger coming that is common to all of us. Rock Hyraxes are not short on natural predators. They are preyed on by leopards, hyenas, jackals, servals, pythons, and the Verreaux's eagles.  Given that these little creatures are not designed with a biological defensive feature, they choose to live in rocks to offer them the defense and protection they need. Their inability to defend themselves made them find wisdom in getting the much needed defence from the rocks. Rock hyraxes are very safe when they retreat into their rock stronghold.  This is the wisdom we should learn. As humans, there are so many things that can cause us serious hurt. This could be spiritual, physical, emotional, financial, psychological, etc.  Wisdom requires us to seek defence and protection when we find ourselves in danger. So far in the series, we have talked about the ants. Now we turn our attention to the Hyraxes. Hyraxes or Conies as they are called in the King James Version or Rock Badgers in the New King James Version are fascinating creatures that dwell on rocks. They are predominantly found in Africa and the Middle East.  The Bible right away tells us that they aren't powerful creatures. It is important we discuss discipline in relation to the issue of savings. When I was much younger (about 9 or 10), I decided I wanted to start saving so I went and bought a traditional saving box. You know those ones made from tin cans.  Good enough I began saving. A little 20 naira here, a little 50 naira there. Sometimes, I saved a 100 naira. The thing is I was disciplined and consistent in my endeavour.  However, the problem was I couldn't leave the box closed for as long as I projected. Every now and then I will break my bank to get the money I had saved. And I ended up spending the money in very silly ways.  Before you look at me funny, I'm taking a wild guess that you probably had or might still have the same issue. They save for rainy days literally. Ants know that there are times when they won't be able to work and they make provisions for such times. The principle of savings is not a new concept to us. The only problem is that many of us do not practise it.  If there is anything the lockdown should have taught many of us is that there is a need to save. Many were stranded because there was no savings anywhere.  In a country like Nigeria, many complain that the income of the average Nigerian is too small to save anything from. While it is true that many people's income are low, it doesn't negate the principle of savings.  Savings should be made from the little you have. In fact, many have advised that you have a fixed percentage that goes into savings.  One reason many cannot save irrespective of th

They know there are seasons (rainy and winter) where they can't work. Well, everyone needs to network but not necessarily in the sense of I bring one, he brings one kind of thing.  Networking is defined as the act of making contact and exchanging information with other people, groups and institutions to develop mutually beneficial relationships. Ants do this so well. As they go out foraging for food, they do so in a network line. They maintain this line to ensure the effectiveness of the task at hand.  If this line is broken, the ants will scamper for a bit in different directions. But give it a few minutes and the line will be back. It might not be the exact route, but another line will be created nonetheless.  What's the lesson here? How do we apply this? Your ability to communicate and gather information from around you is paramount to your success at every level. One of the astounding attributes of ants is their well organised structure. While they might have a queen who is the founder of the colony, her duty is to lay eggs that become new ant members of the colony. Her duty is not to lead other ants in their everyday duties. How then are ants so organised with no particular ant calling the shots? Here are few reasons: I. Division of labour. This is a concept many are familiar with. Any system that seeks to be organised must have division of labour at its core. In an ant colony, each ant performs specific tasks depending on the situation on ground. Not that they have fixed roles (only the Queen's role is fixed). How does this translate to us as humans? If you run an organisation, you cannot do everything yourself. If I was to sit in front of a TV all day, you'll practically have me watching Natgeo Wild for a large part of it. God in His wisdom has put in these creatures basic wisdom for living. Therefore, when we humans get it wrong and complicate how life should be, we can glean wisdom from these creatures. The scripture is full of many instances where reference is made to certain creatures. Also, observing these creatures you can learn so much from the instinctive wisdom resident within them So by God's Grace, for the next couple of weeks, we'll be going to the ants (lower lifeforms) to learn the basics and simple lessons of life.
