Text: Proverbs 30:24-28 (New Living Translation)
[24]There are four things on earth that are small but unusually wise:
[25]Ants—they aren’t strong, but they store up food all summer.
[26]Hyraxes—they aren’t powerful, but they make their homes among the rocks.
[27]Locusts—they have no king, but they march in formation.
[28]Lizards—they are easy to catch, but they are found even in kings’ palaces.
The book of Proverbs chapter 30 refer to 4 small creatures as being wise. So far in the series, we have talked about the ants. Now we turn our attention to the Hyraxes.
Hyraxes or Conies as they are called in the King James Version or Rock Badgers in the New King James Version are fascinating creatures that dwell on rocks. They are predominantly found in Africa and the Middle East.
The Bible right away tells us that they aren't powerful creatures. Hence, their wisdom is not a function of their strength.
What the Bible recognizes as their wisdom is their ability to make their homes among the rocks. This is the wisdom we seek to discover from these furry little creatures.
Let's continue tomorrow as we "go to the ants" and learn wisdom from the Hyraxes.
