Theme: His Will not your works

Anchor Text: Matthew 7:21-23
[21]Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
[22]Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
[23]And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

It is quite common to see a good number of belivers involved and engaged in a lot of good works. After all Jesus Himself said in Matthew 5:16 'Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.' So we preach the gospel, prophesy, cast out devils, organize concerts and seminars, have amazing outreaches, etc and we feel amazing because we just did God's work and we've been busy for Him.

However, the truth is once His Will isn't that which guides and instructs any of these activities, our works are regarded as iniquities. The questions we need to ask are: "Are these works we carry out God's Will? "Or do we do them because we must work in order not to feel left out? "Are the programmes we hold God's Will?" "Or are they done out of our fleshy desires or soulish drive?"

The very fact that one can call Jesus Lord is a testimony to the truth that the Holy Spirit is working in such a life because it takes the Spirit of God to bring a person to the realization that Jesus is truly Lord. 1 Corinthians 12:3 'Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Therefore, these workers of iniquities had the Holy Spirit but refused to allow Him lead and take full charge.

Jesus' life was a perfect example of God's Will over doing works. That's why the writer of Hebrews in Hebrews 10:7-9 wrote of Jesus: [7]Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.[8]Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; [9]Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second._ His works were done according to the will of the Father.

Our works without agreement with the Will of the Father are mere sacrifices that don't please God; and whatever doesn't please
God is borne out of iniquities. God is more pleased in obedience to His Will with less works than so many works that doesn't have the approval of His Will.

I pray that we all receive the Grace and Spirit of obedience to follow God's Will.

Stay Graced...
