Theme: Eyes Have Seen, Ears Have Heard, the Mind Has Imagined

Anchor Text: 1 Corinthians 2:9-13
[9]But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
[10]But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
[11]For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
[12]Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
[13]Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

It is quite common for believers in Christ to quote 1 Corinthians 2:9 when we're trying to encourage others about the greatness of the future ahead despite how the present situations. So we are like: 'Dont worry, your eyes have not seen, your ears have not heard, your mind has not imagined what God is planning for you' However, we just preached something unscriptural.

'Unscriptural you might say?' and to that I say yes. A pastor friend of mine has the same issue with this scripture as we use it nowadays. So I'm here to tell you that eyes have seen, ears have heard and the mind has imagined what God has prepared for them that love Him. And I'll make you understand that in this article...

Now first and foremost, we must understand that the Apostle Paul was quoting Isaiah 64:4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. At the time Isaiah made this statement, it was true and correct.

We know that at that point Jesus had not died therefore a New Testament wasn't in operation. So Isaiah spoke based on the understanding of the Old Testament. Comparing the things he said in that chapter 64 with New Testament truths, then you'll understand that a huge difference exists.

In verse 1 Isaiah said: 'Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,'
So here Isaiah was wishing that God would come down. In the New Testament, we have the Bread of Heaven that came down from Heaven.  John 6:58 "I am the true bread that came down from heaven..." (New Living Translation) Therefore we are no longer waiting for God to come down; He has already come down.

In that verse also, He wished for God's Presence. In this era, we don't wish for God's Presence; we have Him and we carry Him inside of us. Jesus said in Matthew 28:20 '...lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world...' He also spoke of the indwelling Presence of God inisde of us and said in John 14:1 'Even the Spirit of truth;...but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.'

Isaiah went ahead to say in Isaiah 64:6 'But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.' In the New Testament this is quite the opposite. The Bible in 2 Corinthians 5:21 makes it clear. 'For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.' Therefore, we are not unclean things with righteousness as filty rags, rather we are sons of the Most High and not just righteous but we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. That means God's eternal righteousness is manifested and exhibited to the world through us. So that when the world wants to see the righteousness of God all they need to do is look at us. Hallelujah.

Isaiah also said in Isaiah 64:7 '...for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.' Wow that's strange to imagine under the New Testament. How can God hide His Face from us when we are His righteousness and when we have express access to Him through the Son Jesus. In fact which is a truth, even when we sin (miss the mark), because of Jesus we can still gain access to the throne room.

We have scriptures to back this up:
Romans 5:2 'By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.'
Ephesians 2:18 'For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.'
Ephesians 3:12 'In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.'
Hebrews 4:16 'Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.'

I say this by the Spirit of God that 'God cannot hide His Face from us even if He wanted to. Because the price has been fully paid to grantuus access. The Way known as Jesus has already been opened up (literally: his side was pierced, his hands and feet were pierced. Those were openings) and access granted; no longer denied.

Now we see the vast difference between the time Isaiah made that statement in Isaiah 64:4 and our present dispensation. So why did Paul quote it? If we read further down 1 Corinthians 2:10 as we have it in the anchor text, we get the beauty and the deep meaning of what Paul wanted us to understand.  For Covenant children under Grace, quoting only verse 9 means we think we're still under the Old Covenant.

So why has our eyes seen, our eyes heard, and our minds imagined? Those things that God had planned for us are now revealed to us by the Spirit of God that lives inside of us. We no longer are in the dark as to what God is planning for us. The Holy Spirit within us is the revealer of the mystery of God to us.

The disciples beheld God in the form of man in Jesus so John could say in 1 John 1:1 'That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;'
John received the revelation of Jesus and the things that were to come as a result of the Holy Spirit interfacing with his own human spirit. He said in Revelation 1:10 'I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,' What this means was that John was having a deep connection with the Holy Spirit that He was lost in that fellowship and his spirit intercourses with the Spirit of God to the point that the hidden things in the mind of God could easily flow to the spirit of John that was regenerated to receive these spiritual truths.

The plan of God is no longer a mystery for one who aligns himself or herself to the Eternal Spirit of God. Before they use to be a mystery but now they are Revelations to us. The dispensation we are in is a time prophesied about by the prophets of old but could not fully understand and the angels have waited a long while to see man in this glorious spiritual era; so they watch with excitement. 1 Peter 1:10 This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you.
1:11 They wondered what time or situation the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ’s suffering and his great glory afterward.
1:12 They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you. And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen. (New Living Translation)

Our eyes are seeing, our ears are hearing and our minds (we have the mind of Christ remember) are imagining the plans of God for us. Echoing the words of Jesus in  Matthew 13:16-17 'But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.'
'For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.'

Prayer: May our eyes, ears and minds continually receive glorious Revelations of Jesus and spiritual truths in Jesus name.
