Theme: Complete Obedience: Requirement for Success
Anchor Text: Joshua 11:15
_As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses._
_As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses._
One of the most successful period the Israelites ever had in their history as a nation was under Joshua's leadership. In fact most theologians and bible scholars refer to the book of Joshua as a book of success. While the book of Judges is a start contrast as it records a lot of failures of the Israelites as a nation.
Remember what the Lord Himself told Joshua in Chapter 1 verse 8? 'This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.'
That verse is an indication that success was foremost in the mind of God when He assigned Joshua the task of leading the Israelites. How Joshua achieved this success was primarily based on His obedience. The Lord told Him that he (Joshua) is to do according to all (not some but all) that was commanded in the book of the Law.
If we know the scriptures well, we know that the book of the law was written by Moses as the Lord instructed him. And our anchor text said that Joshua did not leave anything undone of all that Moses commanded him as the Lord commanded Moses. That means it was complete and total obedience to instruction and commands.
We all know that partial obedience prevented Moses from entering the promise land because he struck the rock instead of speaking to the rock. Just that cost him dearly.
Saul the first king of Israel also suffered the same fate. Partial obedience cost him his throne and a dynasty that was to exist forever. 'Obedience is better than sacrifice' was the remark Saul got from the prophet Samuel.
The level of success you enjoy is dependent on your level of obedience to Divine instructions and commands
Prayer: Spirit of the Living God work in us and cause a transformation so strong in us that our wills be fully submitted and obedient to your instructions and directions. May we not try to do things by our own intellect and strength rather we would live in complete compliance to your commands in Jesus name
