Theme: You don't have to prove yourself

Anchor Text: Luke 4:9 New Living Translation
Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off!

From the time we are born into this world, there is this kind of unspoken need for us to prove ourselves to others. As kids we try to prove ourselves to our parents, our friends in school and teachers. As we get older, the pressure is there for us to prove ourselves to our bosses at work, our spouse at home, and with social media today; we try to prove ourselves to the whole world.

This has put us in an unnecessary competition with others because we seek validation and don't want to feel like we aren't meeting the standards set by others.

Jesus' temptation on the mountain was basically Satan asking Him to prove that He was who He said He was. Twice he told him: 'If you are the son of God...' He was the Son of God already, He didn't have to prove it.

The problem is even 'well meant words' like that of a wife speaking to the husband or a parent talking to his son still puts this pressure on us to meet up the standards set for us and prove ourselves.

It's just like when a wife tells her husband "If you are a man, why not make more money like other men'; he's already a man, having less money doesn't change the truth that he is a man. Or a parent telling his child 'If you are my son you won't be jobless till now'; being jobless doesn't change the truth about his sonship.

Proving yourself to others is trying to to meet up the expectations of others. It is basically doing what others expect of you rather than doing what God expects of you. No one knows your ability except God who created you, therefore no one has the right to judge you. Only seek to be the best version of yourself at any given time. Improve on yourself according to God's plan for your life not based on others' opinions.

Only one standard matters in life and that's the one set by God. Jesus was already approved by God at the river of Jordan, therefore He needed no other validation. Stop trying to please men. Stop trying to impress others. Stop trying to prove your worth and value. Don't let your life be judged or determined by what others say. Only God's words matter over your life. And He says you're "the apple of My eyes" and if others can't see you that way then it means they need to see an ophthalmologist.

Prayer: I decree over your life that you are Graced beyond measure, your light is shinning, you're the crown of God's creation, you are beautiful, you are creative, you are unique. You are not defined by the words of men, rather God's word defines you. Be fruitful in Jesus name.
