Which water are you drinking?

Spirit Breakfast 🍞☕  30/5/2020 Text: John 4:13-14 [13]Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: [14]But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Water is satisfying; it quenches thirst. There are all sorts of drinkable liquid but not all quench thirst. Some even increase thirst. Others take away thirst while you drink; only for the thirst to return immediately you finish drinking. Some liquid looks like water, but they aren't. They have the colorless look, but they have mixtures that make them have a taste. Have you wondered why a liquid (water) that has no taste has the ability to quench thirst? Something that your tongue lacks the perception to detect, yet it is the most satisfying and thirst-quenching liquid of all. There is something about the purity of water that cannot be duplicated

Honour Spiritual Leaders

Spirit Breakfast 🍞☕  29/5/2020 Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (New Living Translation) [12]Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. [13]Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other. We live in a generation that lacks honour. A generation where folks scoff at, mock and ridicule leaders whom God has called into His service. Men who have laboured and are labouring in the Lord should be respected. These people should be appreciated for their labours. The body of Christ recently is one that fails to acknowledge the labours of her workers. Even the kingdom of hell does not neglect to recognize those who wrought great iniquity. A man who lacks honour will never enjoy certain dimensions of divine prosperity and longevity (Ephesians 6:1-3). Men and women who have gone ahead of us in the Lord carry some level of God through th

Be content

Spirit Breakfast 🍞☕  28/5/2020 Text: 1 Timothy 6:6 [6]But godliness with contentment is great gain. In a world that qualifies success with possessions, one can get up in all sorts of rat race inevitably leading one to greed. Greed is listed as one of the seven deadly vices and it has been known to ruin men. While the Word of God teaches us to be hardworking, industrious, and competent in financial matters, it also teaches us to be content. Contentment is that which protects us from covetousness and greed. Contentment is a state of self-satisfaction as well as management of the current resources at your disposal. It is not allowing circumstances to push you into ill means of wealth acquisition. That is why contentment is produced in godliness. Contentment is an understanding that the resources available are sufficient for you at the moment. This can only be attained by having self-sufficiency in the provision of the Father. He gives us our daily bread. Don't let

Demonstration of the Spirit and Power

Spirit Breakfast 🍞☕  27/5/2020 Text: 1 Corinthians 2:4 [4]And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. When I evaluate the life, the knowledge level, and the effectiveness of the forerunners of the faith even in our country Nigeria against our breed of believers today I see a great difference. The fathers of old who conquered territories and brought about strange revivals in the land were not well learned when compared to the present-day believer. They weren't armed with understanding Hebrew and Greek, they didn't know much apologetics, neither could they really deliver exegetical messages like we can today. Knowledge of the Word these days has greatly increased. We have insights into so many mysteries that the men of old didn't. But how come we still ask for power as of old? How come we want the revival of the fathers? What made their time more cherished than ours today? Aft

Marks of genuine spiritual leaders (part 2)

Spirit Breakfast 🍞☕  26/5/2020 1 Peter 5:2-4 (The Amplified Bible) [2]Tend (nurture, guard, guide, and fold) the flock of God that is [your responsibility], not by coercion or constraint, but willingly; not dishonorably motivated by the advantages and profits [belonging to the office], but eagerly and cheerfully; [3]Not domineering [as arrogant, dictatorial, and overbearing persons] over those in your charge, but being examples (patterns and models of Christian living) to the flock (the congregation). [4]And [then] when the Chief Shepherd is revealed, you will win the conqueror's crown of glory. _Continued from yesterday_ 3. Not motivated by profit There's the pressure today for spiritual leaders to amass wealth and gain from their followers thanks to their spiritual office. Peter says that shouldn't be the case. Leaders are to serve eagerly and cheerfully and not because of what they can get as a result of their office. Taking advantage of the office for pe

With the way special focus and scrutiny are placed on the lives of spiritual leaders these days, it is important we look into the Holy Scriptures to see the marks of genuine spiritual leaders. This action will allow spiritual leaders to once again assess themselves in light of the Word and make adjustments where necessary. Furthermore, followers can ascertain if their

Topic: Even great men have fears Text: 1 Kings 19:2-4 (New Living Translation) [2]So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: “May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them.” [3]Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there. [4]Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, lord,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.” Sometimes, when we see those who have achieved some amazing feats in life we think of them as Supermen. We only see those achievements, but we don't see their struggles. If there's one thing I love about the Bible, it is that it shows us the fears, frailties and weaknesses of the great heroes of faith we try to emulate. Imagine Elijah after the major miracle of calling down fire on

Topic: King of Gold Text: 2 Chronicles 9:20,27 (New Living Translation) [20]All of King Solomon’s drinking cups were solid gold, as were all the utensils in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon. They were not made of silver,  for silver was considered worthless in Solomon’s day! [27] The king made silver as plentiful in Jerusalem as stone.  And valuable cedar timber was as common as the sycamore-fig trees that grow in the foothills of Judah. The wealth of king Solomon is one of the areas of study that draws the heart of many financial experts. So much so that they've calculated his wealth at an estimated $2.2Trillion in today's monetary value. This is an estimate as not all of his wealth could be accurately calculated. Nevertheless, it gives us a picture of how wealthy the king was. We know from scriptures that the primary reason Solomon amassed such wealth in his lifetime was as a result of the wisdom he received from God. It was because he asked for an understand

Topic: Lessons from the Tabernacle during Eli's Time (Part 4) Text: 1 Samuel 3:1-4 (New Living Translation) [3]The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God. So far we've seen how far removed Israel had become from the Lord their God. While the tiny light of spirituality was about flickering out, God decided to fan once again the embers of spiritual revival. It's is of utmost importance that we realize that no matter the spiritual decadence in the land, God will still have a man. And a man is all God needs to turn the world right-side up. While verse 3 shows us the negligence of the High Priest and spiritual slumber, it also introduces us to a young lad and his proximity to the presence of the Lord. The verse shows us that Samuel laid in the Tabernacle close to the Ark of God. While it can be argued based on the customs of the Tabernacle that Samuel was not directly inside the Holiest place where the Ark of

[3]The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God. Yesterday, we looked at the compounded woes of Israel as a result of the blindness of the spiritual leader Eli. One would think that's all the issues they had, however, we see yet another fault in the life of Eli the priest. It's so subtle you'll miss it if you don't examine the text carefully. I call it the error of spiritual slumber. If you look at the latter part of verse 2 that tells us that Eli had gone to bed, you might not see anything wrong therein. The shocker lies in the first part of verse 3: "The lamp of God had not yet gone out".  If you read it from the KJV ("And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD") you might be confused and thi

Topic: Lessons from the Tabernacle during Eli's Time (Part 2) Text: 1 Samuel 3:1-4 (New Living Translation) [2]One night Eli, who was almost blind by now, had gone to bed. We already established that visions were not a common occurrence during Eli's time. As if to further compound things verse 2 of our text sheds more light on the dark and blind situation of Israel's priesthood. The High Priest who was to see and receive visions on behalf of the people was described as almost blind. This is a troubling revelation. One of the characteristics that make for a  great leader is vision. It is the trait that allows leaders discern the way forward and lead their followers through the way. When leaders are blind, the people can be robbed of their blessings.  This was why Jacob could easily decieve Isaac and get the blessing. Eli's blindness was a stark contrast to that of Moses who designed the Tabernacle. Deuteronomy 34:7 tells us "And Moses was an hundred

Topic: Lessons from the Tabernacle during Eli's Time (Part 1) Text: 1 Samuel 3:1-4 (New Living Translation) [1]Meanwhile, the boy Samuel served the lord by assisting Eli. Now in those days messages from the lord were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon. The Tabernacle was supposed to be a meeting place where God will come to speak to the leaders of Israel who will then relate it to the people. However, in our text we discover an aberration from that which was instituted. Messages from the Lord became a rare occurrence. Visions became uncommon. Israel during the time of Eli were left to their whim. There was no Divine word to guide them so everyone wandered as they pleased. God always spoke to Moses at the Tabernacle. The messages were guiding light and compass to the people. But when it came to Eli, everything was turned upside down. Let's shift our focus a bit from Eli and look at ourselves today. How powerful are the messages we receive from the Lord?

[3]The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God. [4]Suddenly the lord called out, “Samuel!”“Yes?” Samuel replied. “What is it?” Introduction God instructed Moses to construct the Tabernacle as stated in the  book of Exodus during Israel's time in the wilderness. The Tabernacle was to serve as a meeting place for God and the mediators of Israel (Moses and the Priests) (Exodus 29:42-44). It was to serve as a place where atonement can be made on behalf of individuals and the nation of Israel as a whole. All these happened during the time of Moses and Joshua. Fast-forward to Eli's time as both judge

Topic: Correcting Fathers Text: 1 Timothy 5:1a (New Living Translation) [1]Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father.  A long time ago I came across this verse and it has served as a guiding verse when correcting those older than I. Although the African culture has engrained in us that elders aren't wrong, this however is untrue. Elders can be wrong just like anyone. But correcting Fathers can't be done in the same manner as correcting a child. Apostle Paul wrote to his spiritual son Timothy and gave him this as a guide. When correcting a father, never speak harshly to him. Do not use insults or derogative words. If you want them to agree with your thoughts, opinions and ideas, present the matter as an appeal. Don't make it an ultimatum or an order. Every encounter and interaction with those older than you must be done in respect even if you are in a place of authority above them. The fact that the

Topic: Why He is God Text: Ecclesiastes 8:17 (New Living Translation) [17]I realized that no one can discover everything God is doing under the sun. Not even the wisest people discover everything, no matter what they claim. One of the fundamental attributes of God is His Omniscience. That is the ability to know everything completely. This knowledge extends from the timeline of eternity past to eternity future. It is intricate knowledge of all that occurs at every point, place and time without missing the minutest of details. That's why He is God; His Omniscience is infinite. Man, on the other hand, is a finite being; well limited in knowledge. Although designed with the most sophisticated organ to store tons of information, we are quite fallible. There is a stark, vast and wide chasm between the knowledge of man and that of God. The entirety of man's life is actually lived to understand and discover an extremely minute fraction of what God has done and is curr

TOPIC: Christ died for us Romans 5:6-8 (New Living Translation) 5:6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 5:7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 5:8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Paul in his wonderful dissertation of Salvation in the letter to the Romans showed us that salvation originated from God. Salvation is not that which can be acquired by ourselves. Rather it was a gift from God that was sealed through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. We were all saved in the nick of time just before the devil's claws could drag us into eternal perdition. Christ died for us even when we were not worth dying for. Even after we've been saved, very few of us will even die for themselves. Hence, righteousness which we enjoy is imputed

TOPIC: The result of perversion of truth and justice TEXT: Micah 3:5-12 One the greatest failure of mankind is in leadership. The tool for the progress of a society is leadership. Hence, when the leader fails, progress is halted. The text above could as well be directed to us in this day and age. The leaders both spiritual and political were leading the people wrongly. Lying, bribery and corruption were the order of the day. These leaders did this to enrich themselves. There was no truth or justice in the land. Truth and justice was determined by who could pay more. If you had the money the verdict would swing to your favour. This was the pattern then and we find it repeating itself in our society today. As a result, God declared judgement upon Jerusalem. The leaders (spiritual and political) drove the nation to ruin. But before you start pointing fingers at the government and religious leaders,  I'll like you to consider yourself first. A great society is a f
