Demonstration of the Spirit and Power
Spirit Breakfast 🍞☕ 27/5/2020
Text: 1 Corinthians 2:4
[4]And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.
When I evaluate the life, the knowledge level, and the effectiveness of the forerunners of the faith even in our country Nigeria against our breed of believers today I see a great difference.
The fathers of old who conquered territories and brought about strange revivals in the land were not well learned when compared to the present-day believer.
They weren't armed with understanding Hebrew and Greek, they didn't know much apologetics, neither could they really deliver exegetical messages like we can today.
Knowledge of the Word these days has greatly increased. We have insights into so many mysteries that the men of old didn't.
But how come we still ask for power as of old? How come we want the revival of the fathers? What made their time more cherished than ours today?
After all, we have more crowds than they do. We have incredible edifices as church buildings. We are no longer poor as church rats.
While we have these things, we seem to lack the power that brought men to Christ in droves.
Let's be sincere, when we organise crusades, revivals, conferences, etc. The number that makes up the majority of our crowd are still believers. Yet, our fathers who didn't know much as we do held crusades with unbelievers attending in droves.
Their messages weren't deep like we would desire these days. They didn't contain rhemas such as we seek after today. They weren't so tailored and designed to address the intellect like many messages today.
Yet, when they spoke these simple words it brought nations to their knees, communities were overwhelmed, systems were overturned. Frail men and women who the world will not regard today brought kingdoms to a halt.
They were not trying to impress, they weren't trying to showcase their eloquence. They only allowed the power of God to flow through them.
I'm not saying knowledge is not important. But more important is the power that backs the message we preach.
Once again we need the demonstration of the Spirit and Power. Eloquence has failed. Intellectualism has failed.
Paul as learned as he was understood that conquering territories required not enticing words of man's wisdom, but the demonstration of the Spirit and Power.
We need the power of God to be demonstrated much more in these last days. We need to press into the power dimension of God that was able to free Israel from Egypt.
Lord, we pray across this country and the world, raise up men and women once again who'll herald your return with great manifestations of your power.
May we not remain caught up in our religious routines. Spur our hearts, quicken our spirits, empower our bodies to be carriers of Your divine nature. Amen.
Have a graced day...
