Topic: Lessons from the Tabernacle during Eli's Time (Part 4)

Text: 1 Samuel 3:1-4 (New Living Translation)
[3]The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God.

So far we've seen how far removed Israel had become from the Lord their God. While the tiny light of spirituality was about flickering out, God decided to fan once again the embers of spiritual revival.

It's is of utmost importance that we realize that no matter the spiritual decadence in the land, God will still have a man. And a man is all God needs to turn the world right-side up.

While verse 3 shows us the negligence of the High Priest and spiritual slumber, it also introduces us to a young lad and his proximity to the presence of the Lord.

The verse shows us that Samuel laid in the Tabernacle close to the Ark of God.

While it can be argued based on the customs of the Tabernacle that Samuel was not directly inside the Holiest place where the Ark of God was, we know he was close to it via an adjacent room.

In those days the High Priest stayed in an adjacent partitioned room close to the Ark. This helped them to get up early and carry out the required rites.

Since Samuel was serving Eli, he had to be close to Eli as well to readily be beckoned on when needed.

Therefore, every night Samuel stayed close to the Ark of God. Even though he wasn't directly in the Holiest Place, the Presence of the Lord sensed the boy's nearness and closeness both in physical location and in his heart.

Samuel was there every night without fail.

How close are we to the Presence of God?
How constant do we stay close to Him in heart and location?
Is our closeness to God and His Presence consistent, or we are here today and not tomorrow?

It is when we draw near to God that He draws near to us (James 4:8).

I pray for us that we would once again desire that hunger to constantly be in God's Presence.

Have a graced day...
