Topic: King of Gold

Text: 2 Chronicles 9:20,27 (New Living Translation)
[20]All of King Solomon’s drinking cups were solid gold, as were all the utensils in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon. They were not made of silver, for silver was considered worthless in Solomon’s day!
[27]The king made silver as plentiful in Jerusalem as stone. And valuable cedar timber was as common as the sycamore-fig trees that grow in the foothills of Judah.

The wealth of king Solomon is one of the areas of study that draws the heart of many financial experts.

So much so that they've calculated his wealth at an estimated $2.2Trillion in today's monetary value. This is an estimate as not all of his wealth could be accurately calculated.

Nevertheless, it gives us a picture of how wealthy the king was.

We know from scriptures that the primary reason Solomon amassed such wealth in his lifetime was as a result of the wisdom he received from God.

It was because he asked for an understanding heart so God replied, “Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life or wealth or the death of your enemies—I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! And I will also give you what you did not ask for—riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life! (1 Kings 3:11-13 NLT)

This is why Solomon cherished wisdom even above all his riches and wealth. He wrote: "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding" (Proverbs 4:7 KJV)

Our anchor verses point out that as far as Solomon was concerned, silver was nothing; in fact it was worthless to the king and only good enough for the common folk.

This brings our mind to another King who saw gold as nothing. Here's His account of the city He built:

And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass". (Revelation 21:18,21 KJV)

This King also has more wisdom than Solomon. He is described as the "ONLY WISE GOD" (Jude 1:25).

The GOD we serve; our KING is both Wise and Wealthy. He is the King of Gold and all things precious. All the gold literally belongs to Him (Haggai 2:8).

All we ever need for sustenance can be found in Him. He gives freely to His children. All we need to do is ask like Solomon did.

Ask wisely, ask for the right thing and assuredly all else will be given to us.

How do we know what is the right thing to ask?

Matthew 6:33 has the answer: Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Solomon asked for that which was of importance to the mind and heart of God and he received all of and from God.

Likewise, when we seek God's kingdom, the King of Gold will deliver unto us all we need.

Have a Graced day...
