Let your words be few

Text: Ecclesiastes 5:2

Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

"Let your words be few". This is not a suggestion but an instruction. The Bible is full of instructions concerning how we should speak.

James 1:19 instructs us to be slow to speak. Matthew 12:36 informs us that every idle word spoken shall be given account for on the day of judgement.

Why then does the scriptures have so much on words and how we should speak?

The answer is because words are the formative and creative force that shaped the universe. Hebrews 11:3 says "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear."

God's Word framed the worlds and caused the unseen to be made manifest. And this ability was handed over to us as human beings when we were created in God's image.

When the Son of God incarnated and became man, He said, "The very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life." In other words, life is contained in the words I speak.

Man was given the Earth as his territory of dominion, hence, the words man speak has the same force to create life. That means we are responsible for the things happening around us.

We have God's Spirit, His image and likeness. However, not many act like God. God is not a talkative. Whenever God talks, it is to create.

Every of God's Word is intentionally spoken with a purpose to fulfil. That's why His word never returns to Him void without accomplishing the purpose to which it was sent.

If we are like God, then our words whenever we speak them must be for creative purposes. We shouldn't talk because we can, we should talk because there is something we want to create.

Let your words be few. Be slow to speak. Let your heart ponder the thoughts in your heart deeply before uttering any word.

God is the Ultimate Creator but He has brought us into the creation business as well to call those things which be not as though they were.

But when we use this creative gift wrongly, instead of being creators, we become destructors.

Let your words be few...

Have a fabulous weekend.

P.S: We'll continue the ongoing spirit breakfast series "Going to the ants" next week.
