Text: Proverbs 30:28 (New Living Translation)
Lizards—they are easy to catch, but they are found even in kings’ palaces.
Continued from yesterday...
Have you ever caught a lizard by its tail? If you have you would have discovered that the lizard's tail immediately comes off. This happens not because you pulled too hard on the tail or held it too tight.
Rather, it is a self-defense mechanism known as autotomy. The lizard is willing to let go of its appendage for the sole purpose of self-preservation. The amazing thing is that most lizards are capable of regrowing their tail.
While we humans cannot severe any of our appendages and regrow them later, there is a valuable lesson to be learnt here. This is the lesson of separation or as Jesus put it "cut off".
"And if your hand—even your stronger hand—causes you to sin, cut it off
and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body
than for your whole body to be thrown into hell." (Matthew 5:30 New Living Translation).
There are certain aspects of our lives, nature, attitude, emotions, relationships, etc. that are causing us not to serve God as well as we should. These areas of our lives have become weights that beset us into sin. Sometimes, they just slow down our overall growth and development.
Spiritually these things affect us and cause us to stumble and sin thereby never reaching spiritual maturity. They affect our finances and businesses causing us to remain mediocre. These things affect other parts of our lives including marriage, academics, you name it.
They are so much a part of our life that they've become a part of us. Like an addiction that has become the nature of a person. These aspects of our lives that have become part of us and are responsible for our underdevelopment should be severed and separated from us.
Do not hold onto anything that would bring destruction unto you. Letting go of negative attachments is the first step in the positive direction. If they are hindrances, it is better you let go of them.
“You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy. So let them go, let go of them. I tie no weights to my ankles.” ~
Have a graced day...
