II. Local interaction (communication) among members.
If you've observed ants at work, you'll discover that they tend to bump their heads from time to time.
This might look funny to you as you watch. However, the ants are passing information to one another. Their antenna communicate the current need within their current location.
For example, if an ant meets another with an information about a food source, that information is passed across and the one who just got the information will divert his attention to assist in gathering that food.
How do we apply this?
Your ability to communicate and gather information from around you is paramount to your success at every level.
In a company like organisation, you must constantly seek to find out information from three groups of people:
I. Leaders above you.
This includes your immediate boss and other bosses up the ladder down to your overall boss. If you can't access those way above, make sure you have constant and relevant information from the one directly above you.
II. Colleagues on your level.
These folks might have information that you may not have. They might know better ways of doing things which you may not be aware.
Also, knowing what they know helps you to maintain the same level they are in. You wouldn't want them doing better than you which might look have a negative impression as to how efficient you are.
III. Workers under you.
Grassroot workers tend to have information that leaders at the top might be unaware of. This is because they function at the basic level of operations.
Sometimes, even a gateman might have information that can boost an organisation's overall performance.
So, get feedback from them from time to time.
