Theme: Guarding your progress (part 14)
Anchor Text: Nehemiah 4:11-23
Subtext: Ephesians 6:13-18
Continued from the last post on this series
Ephesians 6:14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
The Body armour (breastplate) of God's Righteousness.
Now that we know what righteousness is, how does it serve as a body armour (breastplate). And how is it relevant to us as we try to guard our progress?
The body armour served to protect the vital organs of the soldiers. This included the heart.
We all know the importance of these organs especially the heart. The heart is responsible for life within the body.
Solomon the wise king understood this so well that he knew the heart also determined what our outward lives will be like.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. (Proverbs 4:23 New Living Translation)
What this means is that the product of your life is a function of the state of your heart.
If you are progressive in life, it is a product of your heart's content.
If you are redundant and stagnant, it is a product of your heart's content.
If you are constantly rising and falling, it is still a product of your heart's content.
Righteousness is of the heart not of the brain. Therefore the righteousness of your heart determines the height of your life.
Proverbs 14:34 attests to this truth: 'Uprightness and right standing with God (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation) elevate a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.' (Amplified Bible).
The degree of your elevation in life is to the degree of how righteous you are. On the other hand sin will bring reproach.
You want to be elevated and progressive in life, then be righteous. That's the way to guard your progress.
