Theme: Guarding your progress (part 16)

Anchor Text: Nehemiah 4:11-23

Subtext: Ephesians 6:13-18

Continued from the last post on this series

Ephesians 6:14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.

The Body armour (breastplate) of God's Righteousness.

"Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks".

Let's still look at the condition of the heart a bit before addressing that which the mouth speaks.

If the heart is full of righteousness, then the mouth will only speak righteousness.

Now righteousness to many is like the opposite of sin. However, looking back at the definition I gave us we discover it's much more than that.

We realized that righteousness simply means 'right standing. Right standing that is compliant with God's standard.

Therefore, any thing whatsoever that does not conform to God's standard for you is unrighteousness.

Let me give an example. If God's standard for you concerning your business is profit every single day, anything short of this isn't righteousness.

Wow! Is that a sin then? No! It is not. It is just that in the area of your business you aren't yet in right standing with God's standard for you.

That's why Paul said such imaginations that try to exalt itself above the knowledge of God should be cast down. (2 Corinthians 10:4)

Now bringing that back to the matter of the heart. If your heart is full of negativity concerning your business, your mouth will naturally and automatically speak negativity about your business.

And this isn't righteousness as far as God is concerned. It is not sin; but it is not right standing.

Jesus never declared that which was contrary to God's standard concerning His life. This was because He understood the power of the words utterred.

Hebrews 11:3 reveals to us that the worlds were framed by the word of God. This means the creative force behind existence are words.

A man who wants to guard his progress must learn to create his world with his words.

Any word you speak that is not in right standing with the standard of God for you life will negatively affect your progress.

Don't pull down yourself with your own mouth. Fill it up with righteousness.

And that starts from filling up your heart with righteousness. Paul the apostle teaches us how to do so in Philippians 4:8.

He said: "Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." (New Living Translation)

What you think about constantly becomes your heart's content. And what is your heart's content becomes your mouth's utterance.

I pray for you as I pray for myself that God will grant us the Grace to think on only wholesome and pure things.

Depsite the depravity of this world, may we receive an enabling to focus on only that which is righteous in Jesus powerful name.

Stay Graced...
