Theme: Guarding your progress (part 12)
Anchor Text: Nehemiah 4:11-23
Subtext: Ephesians 6:13-18
Continued from the last post on this series
Ephesians 6:14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
The Belt of Truth
The last function which we'll look at is it's relationship with the body armour (breastplate).
Truth cannot be independent from righteousness. The belt of truth holds the body armour (breastplate) in place from falling off. You cannot have righteousness without truth. Truth is the guard that protects a righteous man from losing his righteousness.
If there's a righteous cause that is done in falsehood, deceit and self-ambition, no matter how righteous that cause might be, it isn't righteousness.
A typical example is The Crusades that occurred in 1095 - 1492. The crusades first began when the Pope Urban II in a sermon called on Western Christians to take up arms to aid the Byzantines and recapture the Holy Land from Muslim control.
The crusades looked like a righteous cause however the motive behind it was in falsehood. The Pope then used it as a means to reunite the Western and Eastern part of the Christendom that occurred in 1054 and is know as the Great Schism.
This motive was solely based on a personal ambition and glory and not on truth. The kings from England and France that engaged in it and also sponsored it had much of a political reason than a righteous reason.
The crusades is a historical reference that shows us that what might seem righteous does not really mean it is truth. Truth guides the action of a righteous man.
If the instructions of the Word of Truth were adhered to, then these issues of crusades won't be in history today.
I pray that truth would guide your actions in Jesus name.
