Theme: After the king could not sleep what next?
Anchor Text: Esther 6:1-3
6:1 On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
6:2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.
6:3 And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.
The Lord impressed this verse 1 of Esther 6 in my spirit and I feel it imperative to share a truth which many have overlooked for so long due to incomplete interpretation. (We'll continue the series we began 'Guarding your progress' after this)
A good number of believers especially in this country Nigeria know this verse so well. We've prayed with it severally "O Lord cause my helpers not to sleep until they help me" etc. I've seen memes quoting it and even those who aren't partakers of the Divine nature of Christ claim this verse so that it might wrought wonders for them.
The aberration which most people fail to take into cognizance is the fact that although the king could not sleep, the fate of Mordecai was not altered. And due to incomplete understanding of what favour is many have also attributed this to be one verse that justifies favour without man's input. Others refer to it as grace but this is not so.
As much as I'll like to shed light on the proper understanding of both spiritual truths (favour and grace), for want of space I cannot do so in this write-up.
In the case of Mordecai, God wanted to bring about a Divine intervention concerning the fate of Mordecai. However in order for that to take place there must have been that which was done in the past by Mordecai that's worthy of such intervention. God does not coerce man into carrying out His Divine will but he arranges circumstances and situations to fit in His grand design and purpose due to His omniscience.
For Mordecai to enjoy this Divine intervention to the fullest, the records of his previous deeds had to be sought out. The same thing happened when Hezekiah was told to put his house in order. The only thing that brought about Divine intervention and a reversal of the already proclaimed verdict was Hezekiah's past record of his deeds.
The Bible speaks in the book of Revelation 20:12 of books that would be opened apart from the book of life. Apparently God takes record of our deeds and actions. It is these books that God looks upon to reward men. It is obedience to God's law of love that are written down which invokes Divine intervention on behalf of a person.
Understand and know that when a man has gained appreciable stature in the things of God, his dealings with God are no longer that of a child. That's why Paul the Apostle said that 'When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.' (1 Corinthians 13:11)
Therefore when we were still in the world, the Grace of God based on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ brought about a Divine intervention that wrestled us out of the clutches of the devil, sin and hell.
Notice that Divine intervention always is a product of a deed done in history. Even our salvation is a product of Christ's works. The Israelites deliverance was not based on the current generations deed however the covenant enacted with Abraham which passed down through bloodlines invoked that Divine deliverance.
As we grow in the Lord, due to our track record being new, mercy and Grace still speaks for a baby Christian to a large extent. However for an adult in the Lord, God look upon records. The grace now at work in the believer is that which enables him to live the life of the Divine. God told Paul that his grace is sufficient for him which caused the apostle to work tirelessly and on different instances, he had Heaven's backing to intervene in dire situations of his life.
The Divine intervention that brought Joseph out of prison was due to his interpretation of the butler's dream. Mordecai was a man of spiritual stature hence God required a track record for such mighty deliverance.
In the same way God expects matured believers to walk before him and be perfect. God will only swoop into the fiery furnace to rescue a man who has refused to bow before the golden image.
The erroneous teaching of Grace that makes Christians irresponsible in performing spiritual activities and duties is a bane to the Christian faith.
'After the KING could not sleep' what next? Is there that which HE can look upon in HIS record books for a man of your stature who has walked a while with HIM in order for Him to intervene on your behalf?
What have you done for the KING that He can call forth his courts and ask what should be done for the man whom He delights to honour? (You see the favour came after that great deed).
I pray that we understand this spiritual truth in Jesus name.
