Going to the ants XXII (The Swiftness of the Eagle)

Text: Job 9:26
They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.
Apart from the text above, other verses in the Bible references the eagle as a swift creature. The bald eagle is known to fly at speeds of 120 to 160km per hour.
To be swift means to be fast, quick and capable of moving at high speed. The eagle is swift as it hastens to its prey.
This means there is a target which the eagle has in mind. The target is obtained as a result of waiting as we said yesterday.
While we are encouraged to make haste in life, haste without direction or a target is a waste. Many people are swift in their going out and coming in without any specific target in mind.
A mad man is one who wanders aimlessly without a particular destination. Sadly, many sane people still behave in this manner.
If you ask them what their goals are they cannot accurately define and articulate it. God will not grant swiftness to such individuals.
It reminds me of the story in the Bible after Absalom was killed in battle. A young man just wanted to run to David but he had no message to deliver even when he got there first. He was told to stand aside so that the person who had the message but arrived later could deliver the message. So although he had the speed he had no value to offer. (2nd Samuel 18)
True vision (target) gives you a message (value) that you can run with. Habakkuk 2:2 “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others."
Being swift is good but you must have a target in mind while you run. God grants speed to those who have a target to accomplish.
If you lack vision (target) wait like the eagle until the Lord drops a vision in your heart.
"We may outrun by violent swiftness and lose by over-running." ~ William Shakespeare
