Spirit Breakfast 🍞☕ 4th March 2019

*Theme:* *We shall be like Him*

*Anchor Text:* 1 John 3:2&3 (New Living Translation)
3:2 _Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is._
3:3 _And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure._

For those of us that are familiar with New creation realities teachings, you'll discover that a child of God has a lot of rights and privileges he or she can exercise.

Some of those include:
•Our co-heirship with Jesus Christ.
•Our access to the Father at any time.
•Deadness to sin
•Advocate with the Father who is Jesus
•Our access to the unlimited Divine wisdom
•Our Oness with the God
•Our likeness to God.
All these are scripturally based and backed. However, sometimes we run into a certain error of belief

This error is believing that we are already like Christ Jesus in all totality and aspects; ergo perfect. Suffice to say there are sufficient scriptures also to back up the truth that we are now like Jesus when we repent and believe in Jesus; but we are not yet in our ultimate form or likeness. (If you're familiar with dragonball, different forms will not be so strange to you)

But for those not familiar with dragonball, let me explain it using a butterfly analogy. A butterfly undegoes complete Metamorphosis and as such has 4 different forms but it is still a butterfly. As an egg, it is a member of that particular specie of butterfly it belongs to. The same goes for all other stages (forms): larva, pupa and adult. Just because the egg doesn't look like the adult butterfly doent mean it isn't of the same specie.

In essence, we are like Jesus, but we haven't achieved the perfect or ultimate form of Jesus. Let us understand that our perfection isn't complete until we exit this terrestrial plane of existence. The imperfections or corruption we bear is quite evident in our daily struggle with the desires of the flesh. Despite the incorruptible seed is living inside of us, we aren't made perfect as God Himself who is effortlessly sinless without any evil desires; we just strive towards perfection as we continue our walk with God.

This can't be all we can be, therefore there is a hope of something better.

Let's examine the anchor text carefully.
First of all we are already children of God which means we are His offsprings and we carry His genetic makeup in us.
Secondly, there is still a likeness we are yet to have even though we are already God's children.
Thirdly, this likeness can only be made maifest when Jesus returns for His second appearing to mankind.
Fourthly, the likeness we shall put on shall be exactly that which the Lord Jesus has.

What exactly is this form, likeness or appearance?
Colossians 1:18 calls Jesus the firstborn from the dead. _And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, *the firstborn from the dead*; that in all things he might have the preeminence._
We also following in the footsteps of Jesus were also raised to life in Jesus. So the same way He was when he was raised, that's the same way we'll be when He appears.

1 Corinthians 15:51 talks about what happens to us when Jeus appears: _'But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed'_ 'We will not all die' refers to those that will be physically alive when Jesus returns. Instead of death, there will be a transformation. How is this transformation acheived?

The next two verses hold the answer:  15:53 _For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality._ 15:54 _So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory._ (King James Version) That means in a twinkling of an eye, we will put off this corruptible flesh and nature and put on that which is incorruptible. This incorruptible covering (flesh) is now in perfect sync with the incorruptible seed of God's Spirit on our insides. Which gives us absolute vicyiy over sin which leads to death.

Putting  off corruption is so important that David prophesied about Christ.  Psalms 16:10 _'For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.'_
Peter on the day of Pentecost also made mentioned of it and added emphasis: Acts 2:27,31
[27]_Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption._
[31]_He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption._

Therefore, Jesus' flesh did not get corrupted even whilst He was in hell and He had to resurrect and ascend out of hell since His body couldn't be corrupted or tainted. This was why He told Mary not to touch Him since He was yet to present Himself incorruptible before the Father.  John 20:17 _Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God._ (King James Version)

The incorruptible nature of the flesh of Jesus made Him gain ascendancy into heaven. It is the same incorruptible nature of our own flesh when we put off the corruptible that grants us the ability to acheived ascension as we get caught up to meet the Lord in the air when He returns.

The incorruptible nature made Jesus enter into a room that was closed shut and barricaded. When we put on that nature, physical limitations are no longer an issue. We shall be just like He is.

This however cannot be said to be the full extent of our uncanning likeness to the Master when He appears: As we might not fully comprehend to what extent and degree we would be like Him. But I can tell you for sure that it would be glorious.

To this end, the apostle John adds in verse 3 of our anchor text: __And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure._
Achieving this likeness of Jesus on that day is only made possible as a result of a life of purity. Purity of heart and deeds. A glorious likeness of the son awaits us, only impurity or corription can hinder us.

*Prayer:* I pray for you and myself for the grace to live a life of purity fit for the Master's return in Jesus name.
