Theme: Ranking in God's Kingdom
Matthew 18:1-7 Message Bible
1. At about the same time, the disciples came to Jesus asking, “Who gets the highest rank in God’s kingdom?”
2-5 For an answer Jesus called over a child, whom he stood in the middle of the room, and said, “I’m telling you, once and for all, that unless you return to square one and start over like children, you’re not even going to get a look at the kingdom, let alone get in. Whoever becomes simple and elemental again, like this child, will rank high in God’s kingdom.
The disciples of Jesus raised up an issue that is common in every society of man throughout history. They wanted to know who amongst them.would be ranked the higehest in God's Kingdom.
The knew the Kingdom was at hand for that was the Master's message. The only thing the Master didn't tell them was who will be at the helm of each sector and ministry in the kingdom. The fact that they were His closest disciples meant they should be the ones having the highest ranks before any other. And even among themselves they all can't be equal, someone must be the highest. They were sure to receive a shocker from the Master as always.
In God's Kingdom, there is no ranking of the greatest or the least. The Kingdom of God is not like that of man that is made up of subjects. God's Kingdom is made up of His children and all His children are potential kings. That is why God is the King of Kings. Our King is our Father.
In God's Kingdom, there are no crown princes as the Bible says in Revelation 5:10 _And (He) hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth._ Our rule is upon the earth where we have been given Dominion and authority to reign. There is no one that will become king later on while the rest will remind princes for life.
Jesus gave the visual illustration and pulled a little child to Himself and said that's the way we are in the Kingdom. We are all children before our Father the King and we don't reign over each other, rather we reign over the earth.
We are called children of God for a reason. God believes and expects us to exhibit that childlike attitude of simplicity. Only true children are the kings in this Kingdom.
