Yheme: Coping with Aging Identity (Subjective Aging) (Part 13)

Anchor Text: Psalms 90:12 New Living Translation
Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.

Medicine 5: Never compare yourself to anyone.

Galatians 6:4&5 New Living Translation
6:4 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.
6:5 For we are each responsible for our own

One of the fastest way to get depressed is to constantly compare yourself with others who are seemingly doing better than you.

Not only does this bring about depression it also brings about subjective aging. We are not to compare ourselves to anyone for any reason.

Theodore Roosevelt said that "Comparison is the thief of joy" and that's an apt way to put it. Comparison steals your joy and you'll always feel bad about your present condition because there is always someone doing better than you in one area of life or the other.

Jeff Bezos has got it together in terms of wealth. However maritally he just had one of the most expensive divorce ever. Comparison gives you a false expectation and puts you under undue and unnecessary pressure.

You must understand that everyone is in his own race and not a in a race against another. You are to compare yourself with only yourself. Any other comparison will always lead to negative feelings. If you're better than a person you'll feel a sense of pride and if the person is better you might lose some self-worth and self-esteem.

A good scripture to always keep ever in mind is Ecclesiastes 9:11. It says: 'I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.'

All you need to do is to pay atttention and focus to your own life. Keep working on a better you. Till the day your time and chance comes. Ensure you get better not better than a particular person but better than the you of yesterday. This is the way to satisfaction in life.

Stay Graced...
