Theme: Coping with Aging Identity (Subjective Aging) (Part 3)
Anchor Text: Psalms 90:12 New Living Translation
Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.
Another factor responsible for subjective aging is what is called 'Off-Time Events'.
Off-Time Events refer to certain happenings that occurs too early or too late. Sometimes these are usually associated with Role Transition as they work hand in hand.
Off-Time Events include early marriage, having kids before marriage, losing a child quite early, late admissions into tertiary institutions, late marriage, early job promotions, early financial breakthrough etc.
Basically when things happen at the wrong time, it tends to have a negative effect on that particular individual.
The third factor that leads to a change in age identity is 'Stress and Adversity'.
The challenges we go through and the problems of life can change how old we feel about ourselves. Financial challenges, family problems, social issues and whatnot. When these issues become so difficult they stress one out so bad it takes a resolute mind and God's Grace for one not to lose it.
The self-esteem, self-worth of a person can be affected by these challenges and stress of life. Which in turn has a negative effect on such an individual.
We'll discuss more tomorrow...
