Topic: Hated by the World
Text: John 15:17-25
Sometimes when we look at the kind of criticism and opposition believers face, one might be tempted to wonder why the world doesn't love the church.
Over the years, the Church in her bid to be socially and politically correct has done her best to be loved and respected by the world.
Yet, it seems like the more she tries the more she is hated and constantly criticized.
Christian leaders take the greater portion of these criticisms and attacks.
All these can be a bit overwhelming when we look at it from the natural point of view.
However, from the biblical point of view, it shouldn't be strange to us.
I was discussing with a pastor friend concerning these constant jibes and attacks on Christian leaders.
Subtly the Spirit of the Lord impressed it in my heart that even Jesus Christ had critics and oppositions.
You see, if Jesus with all the good which He did was no free from attacks, then we shouldn't be surprised at what we see today.
Interestingly, it was even other religious leaders of Jesus' day that were His greatest critics.
It's pretty similar to what we see today as well.
Jesus knew that the world will hate us as believers. So before He began to tell his disciples of the hate they would encounter out there in the world He gave them a powerful command.
"These things I command you, that ye love one another." (John 15:17)
We already have enough hatred from the world. We shouldn't have more amongst us.
The Master knew that the only thing that will sustain the church despite the hatred from the world is the love we share among us.
We are not of the world hence we cannot be loved by the world.
When we lack love internally, we cannot stand to face the external hate.
Some Christians rundown other Christians so that they can be applauded by the world. This is not he pattern the Master set for us to follow.
It is time for Christians to understand that it's the love among us that guarantees the success of our calling upon the Earth.
As a believer, say to yourself that you won't join the world to hate a fellow believer in word or conduct.
We have enough source of hatred already; let's generate some love.
Have a Graced day.
If you've been blessed or have a question, please let us know. It helps to know that folks are being blessed by this from time to time.
