Topic: A turned away heart (II)
Text: 1 Kings 11:4&6
[4]For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
[6]And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
Solomon despite His initial encounters with God early in life failed later in life.
The heart of the king that was originally fixed on the Lord became turned away from Him.
What caused this? The answer is found in verse 2.
He was disobedient to God's instructions regarding the fellowship of the women he associated with and even married.
The scriptures say these women turned away the heart of the king.
Verse 6 has a striking information about the whole saga. It records that "...Solomon went not fully after the Lord".
This suggests that despite having his heart turned, the kings still tried to go after the Lord but it was never fully nor completely.
If you read Ecclesiastes, you'll see a man who was in distress about his present predicament. Solomon said all was vanity.
Although his heart had been been turned away, yet deep within there was a longing for that fellowship with the Lord once again.
But he could not follow the Lord completely no matter how hard he tired to because of those he had surrounded himself with.
Many believers today are like he King Solomon.
For whatever reason they got mixed with the wrong crowd and they are trying to follow the Lord but it is futile.
The truth is, as long as you have communion (deep fellowship) with those whose deeds do not glorify the Lord, you can never follow after the Lord fully with a pure heart.
If the wives were not in his life, Solomon would have followed the Lord all the days of his life.
The big questions:
Who are you in fellowship with?
Are they turning your heart away from or to the Lord?
If they are turning you away from.the Lord, are you ready to part ways with them?
And may I add as laid in my heart, are you ready to part ways with whatever it is that might be turning your heart away from Lord?
I hope you are and I know grace is available unto you.
Have a Graced day.
