Spiritual Access Points (XII)

Spirit Breakfast 16/1/2021

Text: Genesis 28:12

And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

When Samuel came of age and was serving in the Tabernacle as an assistant to the High Priest Eli, we discover an interesting character of this young man.

The scripture tells us that Eli's sons; Hophni and Phinehas were committing all sorts of atrocities in the Tabernacle.

However, Samuel didn't follow their path which could have easily served as an example to him being a young boy.

Verses 12 and 18 of 1 Samuel shows the contrast between the lifestyle of Eli's sons and Samuel's.

[12]Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels who had no respect for the lord

[18]But Samuel, though he was only a boy, served the lord. He wore a linen garment like that of a priest. (New Living Translation)

Samuel unlike the sons of Eli had deep fear and reverence of God. Although he had access to the consecrated items in the Tabernacle, he never became over familiar with the things of God.

Eli's sons were too familiar with God. They were born and raised as priests.

When a man becomes too familiar with God, he loses the ability to access spiritual realities.

Samuel, on the other hand, was engrafted into the priesthood. And he served God with deep-seated fear and reverence.

A man who will function as a spiritual access point must have deep reverence for and be in constant awe of God. Never should he trivialise anything God-related.

We'll continue next week by God's grace...

I pray for the spirit of supplication to rest on you that you might press into those realities that God has made available for you in Christ Jesus.

Have a Graced...
