Theme: Pray for Others

Anchor Text: Philemon 1:4
[4]I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers

The Christian Life is actually a life live not for oneself but others. The erroneous teachings prevalent among certain Christian circles has made a lot of believers self-centered.

This self-centeredness is evident in our lifestyle, attitude and even prayer lives. Nowadays, the prayer of a believer is usually all about himself. Hardly does he take out time to pray for others. When he does, it is because those people are nuclear family members.

Eve what we call 'intercesory prayers' are now self-centered. I've been in services where someone is asked to lead in intercessory prayers and we ended up praying for ourselves instead.

This wasn't what Paul and the early believers practiced. Paul speaking to Philemon tells him how he mentions him in prayers. Notice the frequency; Paul said not sometimes but always. Imagine Paul having time to always pray for Philemon despite the vast number of people he had to pray for. If he did so for Philemon it means he did same for others. Looking critically at that you'll discover that Paul would have less time praying for himself as a result of praying for others.

A man who carries the burden of others fulfils the law of Christ which is love. And a man who is filled with the love of Christ can achieve the impossible just like Christ did at the cross.

If you notice Paul always asked people to pray for Him. This was because he was busy praying for others. When belivers carry up this selfless nature of interceeding on behalf of one another, miracles come easily because we all act like Christ who lived a life of sacrifice.

I challenge us today, let your prayer pattern change. I'm not saying you shouldn't pray for yourself. Rather I'm saying praying for others should have a greater percentage.
