Theme: Love's Template (part 2)

Anchor Text: 1 John 4:11
[11]Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Sub Theme: God Gave

Reference Text: John 3:16
[16]For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The reference text is one that a lot of people are familiar with. I used to think it's one everyone knows until recently when I saw a video of a young man trying to quote it to back an erroneous opinion.

The first way God showed love was that He gave. A good number of folks know that giving is part of loving so this shouldn't be a big deal right?

Yet the truth is the motive behind giving is what we need to look closely into. Why did God give in the first place? Was it so that he could receive anything back in return? Was it beneficial to Himself or to we who received the Gift of Love?

Most times when we give in love or out of love, inside of us we have this mindset of receiving in return. Even having a mindset of receiving elsewhere simply because you've given somewhere is not the same lovestyle God practised.

He gave for the sake of love. Whenever you give in love, your mind should seek no reward from anywhere. Once you have that in mind it's not out of love but out of a business oriented approach where you do something in order to get a profitable return.

God could have easily recreated the Universe instead of redeeming mankind but He chose to give the way He did. Yes giving is a show and an act of love, it's one of the ways how God showed us Love. The question is this; 'Does your giving follow the template of God's love-gift?'
