Theme: My God: My Glory

Anchor Text: Psalms 3:3
[3]But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

Back in the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve enjoyed all of God's abundance and blessings. Everything was at their command. Their authority upon the Earth was final.

When they sinned against God and rejected His rule, they lost something important: They lost glory. Apparently all the while they were both naked but couldn't notice it because God's glory covered their insecurities.

The Hebrew word for glory is 'kabod'. The literal meaning of kabod is weighty or heavy. The Hebrews spoke of kabod as the weightiness or heaviness of God's Presence. So when God's Presence was revealed upon the mountain, they saw the weightiness of God's Presence; in a way it was always noticeable.

God's Glory in a man's life will always be noticed by others around. It is a unique weight that acts like a covering around such a man. As long as Adam and Eve were in obedience to God they enjoyed the weighty presence of God's Presence that they didn't notice their nakedness.

A man who has God's Glory despite his frailties and weaknesses will always be covered. The Glory covers our weaknesses and reveals our strenghts.

So David wrote the Psalm 3 when he was running from his son Absalom. He still called God his glory. A man who was running away still felt God was his glory. You know we think of glory as appearing and manifesting when things are good. However David knew that in bad times as long as you still had God, the glory remained. It was because of this glory that men were still obedient and loyal to David in his most trying time. They couldn't see the current state of David rather they saw the greatest king of Israel.

When God is a man's glory, promotion and elevation comes easily. David said God is his glory and the lifter of his head. From being forgotten in the bush where he took care of sheep, God the lifter of his head lifted him to become king over all of Israel.

God's Glory in a man's life is so important that despite God telling Moses that my Presence will go with you, he wasn't satisfied with that. He still asked for Glory. God's Presence can be with you albeit subtle that others might not even be aware of. But when Glory comes the weighty Presence of God cannot be denied by anyone around. Moses came down with the glory and men couldn't look at his face.

Confession: God is my Glory and the lifter of my head. I will only manifest the best. God's Glory changes my level and brings me to the place of celebration. God's glory upon my life causes others to recognize God's sovereignty. I am a carrier of God's glory.
