Theme: Love's Template

Anchor Text: 1 John 4:11
[11]Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

A template is defined as the following:
1. A physical object whose shape is used as a guide to make other objects.
2. A generic model or pattern from which other objects are based or derived.

A template is basically the original shape whereby subsequent objects are made from. In most cases, there is always a template upon which every other copy from. The same can be said concerning 'love'.

Whatever does not resemble the original template is another object. Because every other new object is made in the shape of the original. For example we all recognize a rectangle, square or a triangle because whenever we draw or make these shapes they retain the original template. A triangle will always have three lines and three angles. Once an extra angle is added it is no longer a triangle.

God is Love and He showed us a template for love. Therefore when we replicate this love which He showed, it must be in the same mould as that which He showed. Anything which we call love that does not conform to His own template of what love is is something else.

John said that we ought to love one another since God loved us. The question is how did He love us? It is when we answer that question we can then assess our lives to find out if we love according to His set template.

So for the next few days by God's Grace, we'll consider how God loved us. Then we can then pattern our love after His template. It is my belief that if we assess ourselves properly with this discussion, some of us will discover that we have not truly been loving others but we've been practising something else.

Let's continue tomorrow by God's Grace...

Stay Graced...
