Theme: Love's Template (part 4)
Anchor Text: 1 John 4:11
Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
Sub Theme: God Forgave
Reference Text: Ephesians 4:32
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Forgiveness is a fundamental aspect of love. There are no offences where love exist. 1 Peter 4:8 says: Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.
A man who has the love of Christ inside of him as all believers should because the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts (Romans 5:5) will always forgive. Therefore if the same love is in our heart, we should also exhibit and practice love the way God did.
Our response to any kind of offence should be forgiveness irrespective of what it is. Yes we know it's difficult but it's something we don't do by ourselves but through the Grace of our Lord Jesus.
Even God had to forgive us for Christ's sake; for Christ is the bringer of Grace. It is through the Grace of Christ one can forgive a man who murdered his wife. It's only by that Grace can a lady forgive a man who raped her.
Jesus exemplified it on the cross and asked the Father to forgive his oppressors for they didn't know what they did. Stephen a man full of the Holy Ghost who sheds this God kind of love abroad our hearts said the same concerning his killers.
Not only did God forgive our past, he has even forgiven our future. We should have a bank of forgiveness ready to always let go of offences that are even yet to come.
Jesus told His disciples in Luke 17:1-4
17:1 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.17:4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
What quick lessons can we draw from this?
1. Offences are inevitable, they will surely come.
2. There is a curse of woe upon who brings such offence. This is why we don't need to wish our offenders evil because there is the law of recompense which some folks refer to as karma that's attached to such.
3. Always forgive.
If unforgiveness towards anyone dwells in your hear; you are not walking in the template of God's love.
I pray that we forgive our offenders just as the Father has forgiven all our offences.
