Make them one

Text: John 17:11,21
[11]And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
[21]That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Chapter 17 of the book of John contains Jesus' profound prayer to the Father. Many scholars have actually referred to this as the Lord's prayer instead of the model prayer which is called the same name in Matthew 6.

In this prayer, we discovered how earnestly Jesus prayed for His disciples and the global church that would be instituted after the coming of the Holy Spirit.

One of the key elements of His prayer was the unity of the church. He asked that the Father make the disciples (Church) one.

This oneness is to be an actual replication of the Oneness of the Godhead. The perfect synchronized unity that Jesus shared with the Father that caused Him to utter the famous lines: "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30).

The church is called the body of Christ which is made up of many members like our actual body parts. It is the unity and oneness of the individual members that makes up the efficiency of the whole body.

When we look at the landscape of the global church or just that of the national church, we discover that we no longer have that oneness.

Jesus understood that apart from the power of the Holy Spirit, the factor that will cause God's kingdom to come upon the earth will be the Spirit of Oneness.

The kind of oneness that caused Israel to rise up as one man. The oneness of unity that the 120 disciples had in the upper room.

It is this oneness that topples kingdoms and kings. It is such oneness that makes the church a force to be reckoned with.

Individually there is little we can accomplish, but together we are the body of Christ that no mortal force can trifle with.

And the days are coming says the Lord that the Oneness which was prayed for shall once again become a reality. In that day the church shall rise in glory and power as I have ordained her. In just a  little while, it shall not be long.

God will restore the church in unity once again. Continue to pray that the eyes of every believer's understanding grasp this truth.

I'll leave us with these words from Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 12:14-27 (New Living Translation)
[14]Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part.
[15]If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body.
[16]And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body?
[17]If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?
[18]But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it.
[19]How strange a body would be if it had only one part!
[20]Yes, there are many parts, but only one body.
[21]The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
[22]In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.
[23]And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen,
[24]while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity.
[25]This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other.
[26]If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.
[27]All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

Have a graced day...
