Text: Psalms 126:1
When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.
It is said by some scholars that psalm 126 was written during the second return of the captives from Babylon led by Ezra in 458 B.C as seen in Ezra chapters 7-10.
Hence, it was not just an initial turning or returning of the captives, it was the second of the initial turning of the captives as led by Zerubbabel that happened in 538 B.C which was recorded in Ezra chapters 1-6.
The fact that God caused it to happen on two separate occasions seemed unreal to the people.
To those who had returned initially thinking they would be the only ones and for those who returned later to be reunited with the initial returnees.
It was too good to be true so it looked like a dream.
However, when the bewilderment was replaced with acknowledgement of reality, the composer of this Psalm out of faith based on these two separate turnings was able to ask for another turning in verse 4: "Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south."
And this prayer was answered in 445 B.C when the final group of captives returned led by Nehemiah which is recorded in Nehemiah chapters 1 and 2.
We therefore see that our God is in the business of turning things again and again. No matter how many times the devil seem to have gotten the upper hand over your life, God is ever ready turn it again.
No wonder He says in Ezekiel 21:27 "I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him."
Keep faith, God is about to turn it again. He isn't tired of returning you back to your place of pleasantness. As Tye Tribbett sang, "if He did it before, He will do it again".
A great turn around is coming your way. It will look so unreal you'll find it hard to believe. This is the way of the Lord.
Get ready because God is about to turn it.
I'll leave you with this lyrics from Tye Tribbett's "He turned it" (Seems I'm loving up on Tye Tribbett this morning). Go get the song if you don't have it...
The devil thought he (had me)
Thought that my life was (over)
He thought by now I'd (give up)
He thought I had no (more)
But that's when someone (greater)
Stepped in my (situation)
My morning has now begun
He turned it!
Have a graced day...
